We all know the massive advantages reading brings into our lives. We build knowledge, memory and most importantly attention management. In this age of instant gratification, reading helps us manage our attention and delays gratification. It is crucial to flex this muscle of delayed gratification. It will slowly change your focus from bring result-oriented to process-oriented.
Imagine having a goal of losing 10 lbs. once I lose the weight I slowly go back to my old ways and the 15 lbs creep back up. If I focussed on the process and made it into a lifestyle, I would have focussed on eating healthy and exercising regularly and challenged myself in the process. I would just keep getting better and better.
This new year, resolve to make reading a part of your life. make it fun by reading 5 fiction, 5 non-fiction and 5 self-help books.
I prefer reading while commuting, 30 mins before bedtime. I use goodreads to keep track of the books I’ve read. I have a free PDF download to keep a books wish list, if you are a pen and paper planning person.
If you are starting out reading, start with 1 book a month. Start small and gradually build it into a habit that you can consistently grow.
