A comfort zone is a beautiful please, but nothing ever grows there.
John Assaraf
We all work hard each day to for a ‘why’. This could be to provide for your family, or to get the lifestyle you always wanted. But as the days merge into months and months into years, the light inside of us starts to die down. We gradually lose that drive to strive harder and better ourselves. And we end up living the same day over and over for 50 years.
This thought scares me a lot. I need to enjoy all aspects of each day. I love my work and when I come home I come to a peace and quiet where I can read, think and plan. I find that each day doing something that makes you uncomfortable just a little keeps that ‘light’ alive inside of you. Okay I don’t know where this ‘light’ metaphor is coming from but I hope you are with me so far.
Getting out of your comfort zone is what makes your days memorable. Challenging yourself a little every day is pushing yourself outside the comfort zone is where you are able to achieve growth. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone could look like –
- Learning new skills
- Traveling to new places. Alone.
- Starting a new business
- Making connections with one new person everyday
- Waking up one hour early
- Stopping the incessant scrolling on instagram and facebook.
- Sign up and training for a marathon.
- Decluttering even when you don’t feel like it
- Managing your finances.
- Reading a new book every month.
All these activities are time consuming and will eat into your TV/phone time. The practical mind inside of me thinks it should be okay, but I can already feel a few excuses coming into my head about waking up early. It is there where the opportunities are and where growth lies.
If you are with me on this one let’s do this for the next 30 days, when we wake up an hour early and get onto one of our goals the first thing in the morning and push through our comfort zones.
