We are almost in the last quarter of this year 2021. When the year started it was very much a continuation of the year 2020 with all the COVID stuff still going on. We had more restrictions on travel, and massive changes in the way we did things. It was hard to see then that those changes are here to stay for a while. But as the year has progressed, have you accomplished things you thought you would this year? What about the next 10 years? Do you have a plan in mind? How do we plan the future when we dont really know whats going to happen in the next couple of months?

I like to do this exercise every quarter and then every year to just check in realign my goals. If I didnt do this, a) I wouldn’t know how much progress i’ve made and my life would be a monotonous hampster wheel. b) All the decisions I make are based on these goals. Here is what I am planning for the next 90 days of the year, and what I plan to accomplish in the next 5 and 10 years.
Reflect – The last few days I have been feeling a little bit disheartened and unchallenged. I realized how much I needed a reflection session. Even if everything seems to be the same, there have been major developments in the last year. We checked off not one but two of our personal goals.
Plan – This step is key. What do you see yourself doing in the future. Plan this in great detail. Which city are you living in? What kind of house do you have? Do you have a partner? Do you have kids/pets? What is your work like? How much money do you want to be making? What do you do on the weekends? Is there something that you always wanted to try out? What is going to be your fitness level? Plan EVERYTHING. You already know what my 5 year plan from 2018-2023 has been (its on the home page of this blog). Apart from those I have a lot of more detailed goals like buying investment properties, having kids, and many financial goals for my life as well.
Take action – Do everything you can right now to make the change. What are some short term changes and long term changes we can make? Obviously these goals will take a long time to materialize. They are 10 year goals, duh, but everyday I think about them, and move the needle a little bit. Just a teeny tiny bit. Over the period of 10 years, that is 3652 days, things will be completely different.
Take the 10 year challenge – remember the 10 year challenge that was going around? We can decide now what we want that to look like.
We can easily get bored in our day to day routines. Life is not about living the same day everyday. It’s about pushing yourself to a better you, to work towards something, something that is your dream life. Thats what its about. Life will keep presenting challenges, we need to keep finding solutions and overcome them. Life shouldnt be stagnant, keep innovating, and challenging yourself.
