90 / 90/ 1 rule

Productivity tip – 90/90/1 rule

For the next 90 days, your first 90 minutes at work, make it focused on your single most important project.

Robin Sharma

Working on the one single goal the first thing in the morning gives you a great head start into achieving your biggest goals. This will let you get through the never ending to-do list.

The 90/90/1 rule seems to be widely accepted and many world leaders have used it in one form or another. It definitely withstands the test of time and is one thing that transcends generations. Here are some reasons why it works:

  1. Flow state – 90 mins of no distractions and complete focus, will surely take you into the zone.
  2. Get things done – the important tasks get done the first thing in the morning. This will give you a feeling of accomplishment.
  3. No decision fatigue yet – With fewer number of decisions made in the early hours of the day, all your mental faculties are available for the task at hand.

When I am marathon training, my long runs are the first thing in the morning. When I am working on a project, my focus is on it the first thing. Allow yourself a set amount of time to work on the most important thing to you. If you are not doing this, you are choosing whatever you do the first thing in the morning to be your most important thing.

Do you prioritize your important goals the first thing in the morning?
